"Animated landscape", painted porcelain plaque

This rectangular hand-painted porcelain plaque dates from the 19th century. Unsigned, the work is attributed to the Italian or Swiss school. The composition depicts a landscape with figures beneath a natural rock arch: in the foreground, a path runs alongside a waterfall crossed by a wooden bridge, with travellers and their livestock near a wayside shrine. A fortified castle and a town bordered by hills extend into the background, illuminated by light filtering through. The piece retains its original gilt frame, decorated with foliate scrolls and rocaille motifs in relief. The plaque alone measures 25 cm in height by 33,5 cm in width, and 44 cm by 53 cm including the frame. The piece is well preserved overall.
