This large carved wooden Buddha depicts the sage seated in the lotus position, with hands resting one upon the other in a gesture of meditation. His face, with half-closed eyes, has a serene expression, framed by elongated earlobes and curly hair surmounted by a flame. The wood retains traces of the original red lacquer and gilding. From Burma, probably Shan State, the piece measures 108 cm in height, 75 cm in width and 45 cm in depth. Radiocarbon analysis carried out in 2016 by the Ralf Kotalla laboratory dates the wood to between 1835 and 1905, corresponding to the 19th century.
