Description

Cast in bronze with a medal patina in the late 19th century, this sculpture depicts a female dog trainer wearing a fitted costume and a pointed cap. The artist, Vincent-Désiré Faure de Brousse (1843-1908), a pupil of Jules Salmson who exhibited at the Salon de Paris between 1876 and 1883, explores the theme of the circus here. The young woman stands on a base with a carpet motif, holding a small hoop above a dog standing on its hind legs. The work measures 64 cm in height and bears the sculptor's signature engraved on its base.
