Console in carved gilt wood and marble

This carved and giltwood console table has a brèche d'Alep marble top. Dating from the Transitional period, it features a shaped and carved frieze decorated with floral garlands and geometric lattice motifs. Two slender cabriole legs, carved with large acanthus leaves at the top, are joined at the base by a pierced stretcher surmounted by a foliate motif. The structural lines reflect the shift from Rococo forms to the Neoclassical vocabulary. The console measures 86,5 cm in height, 137 cm in width and 53 cm in depth. It retains its original gilt patina.
