"Lady in the Mirror", watercolour, Lentrein Jules (1875-1943)

Executed in Belgium circa 1920, this watercolour on paper is by the Belgian painter, watercolourist and lithographer Jules Lentrein (1875-1943). The composition depicts an unidentified young woman in three-quarter rear view, with one hand resting on the mirror and the other on her chest. A dancing figurine appears in the foreground of this intimate scene. The palette features shades of red, green and blue, and the artist's signature appears at the lower right. The sheet measures 30 cm in height by 22 cm in width, and the overall dimensions, including the mount and frame, are 63 cm by 57 cm. Born in Schaerbeek and trained at the Académie de Bruxelles, the artist worked in painting, watercolour and lithography.
