Description

Carved from a single block of aventurine, this Renaissance-style sculpture depicts the head of a warrior, probably Macedonian. Created towards the end of the 16th century in the workshops of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany under Lorenzo the Magnificent, it was carved from a semi-precious stone belonging to the quartz family. The work measures 18 cm in width by 27 cm in height. Located in Brussels, this sculpture is in very good condition. The mastery of carving from a single block highlights the craftsmanship of the Tuscan workshops of the late 16th century.
