Dutch Seascape, oil on panel, DUCKORT Joseph

Dated 1850, this Dutch seascape is an oil painting on panel by Joseph Duckort, sometimes listed as Jan or Jean Joseph Dominique Duckort. Executed in oil on wood, it bears the artist's signature at the lower right. The composition depicts a sunrise over calm water, with fishermen returning to shore. Trees, houses and figures are silhouetted against the morning light. The panel measures 41 cm in height by 58 cm in width, and 56 cm by 71 cm including the frame. The panel has been carefully backed for reinforcement, then professionally cleaned and revarnished. Joseph Duckort was a nineteenth-century Dutch painter, active in the middle of the century and known for his landscapes and seascapes.
