"Lake view" by NEWMARCH Stafford

This late 19th-century oil on canvas, associated with the British or American school, is signed lower right by the painter Stafford Newmarch. The composition depicts a mountain lake with figures. Fishermen aboard small sailing boats haul in their nets, while a family waits on the rocky shore. Steep mountains rise in the background beneath a cloudy sky. The work measures 55 cm by 55 cm unframed and 82 cm by 112 cm framed. The canvas has been cleaned and revarnished, and the frame regilded. An English landscape painter, Stafford Newmarch exhibited from 1866 to around 1874 at the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists and the British Institution.
