Description
This oil painting on panel, dated 1902, is a work of the Belgian School by André Plumot. The composition depicts a pastoral scene with a young shepherd couple leading a flock along a dirt track bordered by rocks. The artist employs a pronounced impasto technique, tending towards Impressionism, and makes use of backlighting. The panel measures 40 cm in height by 30 cm in width, and 80 by 70 cm including its period frame. The painting has been professionally cleaned and revarnished, while the frame has been regilded with gold leaf. A sales and framer's label remains on the reverse. A specialist in landscapes with figures and animals set in the Campine, Plumot exhibited his works in Belgium and abroad.
