A porcelain plaque "Retour des champs"

This oval porcelain plaque is dated 1880. It is signed by the artist C. Bourdon, after the painting « Retour des champs » by the French painter William Bouguereau, created in 1860. The painted decoration depicts a pastoral scene inspired by antiquity, in which a young couple walks along a country path with a newborn child. The woman is draped in blue cloth and carries a load on her head, while the man holds a working tool over his shoulder and offers flowers to a goat. The piece belongs to the tradition of the 19th-century French School. Overall dimensions are 25,5 cm in height by 19 cm in width.
