Pair of Solomonic columns, Italy

This pair of Baroque-style Solomonic columns is made of carved wood and stucco, finished with gold and silver leaf. Dating from the late 18th century, the pair originates from Italy. The construction combines carved wood with plaster mouldings. Each column features a spiral shaft entwined with silvered foliate garlands, surmounted by a Corinthian capital with carved acanthus leaves. Each rests on a moulded circular base. The dimensions are 220 cm in height, 55 cm in diameter at the base, approximately 40 cm in diameter at the shaft and 58 cm in width at the capital. Wear consistent with use remains visible on the gilded surface.
