Pair of carved walnut chairs, late 17th century

This pair of Anglo-Dutch chairs dates from the late 17th century. Crafted from carved walnut with a dark patina, these pieces feature a high rectangular backrest with double cane work. The upper section and the side panels feature carved gilded ornamentation depicting shells and floral motifs. The seat is upholstered in an emerald green silk fabric brocaded with damask floral motifs, accompanied by down-filled cushions and edged with trimmings embroidered with gold thread. The turned legs are joined by an X-shaped crossbar. The underside of the frames reveals the webbing padding.
