Pavillon box made of papier mâché and eggshell, early 20th century

This pavilion-shaped box is made of papier mâché and dates from the early 20th century. It is an English piece featuring veneer and marquetry made from eggshells. The object has an octagonal structure mimicking the architecture of an English house, topped with a removable pyramidal lid representing the roof. The outer walls feature meticulous decoration comprising thin fragments of eggshell, which form the brickwork of the walls, the window frames, and the dark-paned windows surmounted by pediments. The overall effect is a naturally mosaic-like surface in shades of ecru and dark brown. The piece is 40 cm high.
