This painting on glass depicts the portrait of a court lady. Executed in gouache on a glass panel, the work dates from the 19th century and is attributed to the Chinese School. The technique used is ‘fixé sous verre’, a process in which the paint is applied directly to the reverse side of the glass panel. Iconographically, the figure is depicted wearing jade jewellery. The painting measures 59 cm in length and 39 cm in width. The work is in a good state of preservation, although there is a slight, localised chip in the lower right-hand corner.
