Mirror in burl walnut and brass, late 17th century

This mirror in burl walnut and brass dates from the late 17th century. The rectangular structure consists of a burl walnut frame edged with dark mouldings, surmounted by a high, cut-out pediment. The whole is adorned with finely chiselled and openwork brass decorations. This metalwork features birds, acanthus leaves and baskets of flowers, arranged on the upper pediment as well as on the spandrels and the frame’s borders. The central mirror is set within the inner moulding. The piece measures 90 cm in height and 67 cm in width.
