Louis XVI Italian table in gilded wood and porphyry, late 18th century

This Louis XVI-style table of Italian origin dates from the late 18th century. Its gilded wooden frame rests on four tapered, fluted legs adorned with carved foliage motifs. The piece features a tabletop in antique porphyry marquetry set on Carrara marble. The moulding features panels painted in gouache on paper depicting mythological scenes based on antiquity, notably *The Seller of Love*, *Meleager Offering the Head of the Calydonian Boar to Atalanta*, *The Childhood of Jupiter* and *Mercury Bringing a Child*. The connecting blocks are adorned with oval medallions framing elements of amethyst agate. The piece combines gilding, semi-precious stones and painting in a composition inspired by the Neoclassical style.
