Willem Van Hecke, Portrait of a Young Girl, oil on paper, 1944

Painted in oil on paper in 1944, this portrait of a young girl is a work by the Belgian painter Willem Van Hecke (1893-1966). Born in Blankenberge, the artist moved through Impressionist and Cubist periods before developing a personal form of Expressionism centred on the human figure. The face is sketched in dark tones on the original sheet. The work bears the handwritten inscription « van Hecke willem » and the date « 1944 » in the upper right corner. Measuring 22 cm by 29 cm excluding the frame, it is presented in a beige slip within a moulded gilt frame, with overall dimensions of 50 cm by 60 cm. The work and frame are in very good condition.
