This 18th-century bronze sculpture is a depiction of Montesquieu by the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle (1714–1785). The work is executed entirely in bronze and is chronologically situated within 18th-century artistic production. The piece bears the artist’s distinctive mark, in the form of a signature inscribed directly on the right-hand side of the bronze. In terms of its physical dimensions, the object measures 36 centimetres in length, 16.5 centimetres in width and 16.5 centimetres in depth. The piece is in very good overall condition.
