Made in the second half of the 19th century, this large cartel clock draws on the Louis XIV style. Its case combines Boulle marquetry in brown tortoiseshell and brass with gilt-bronze mounts. The top is surmounted by a sculpted figure of the goddess Athena holding her spear, while the side mounts terminate in female masks. At the centre, the chased gilt-bronze dial is set with enamel plaques bearing Roman numerals, surrounding a motif depicting a cockerel within a pagoda. A bas-relief depicting the Three Fates sits below the dial. The marquetry decoration features plant and animal motifs, including birds, butterflies and horses. The clock has been professionally restored and the movement serviced. It measures 106 cm in height, 43 cm in width and 19 cm in depth.
