Empire-style mahogany and gilded bronze dressing table

This mahogany and gilded bronze dressing table dates from the Empire period. Its structure consists of a pivoting mirror frame held between two upright posts surmounted by a triangular pediment. The piece features a set of gilded bronze fittings comprising two vases and a pair of wall sconces in the form of swans with fish tails. The applied decoration combines allegories of music, acanthus leaves and Athenian figures. The lower crossbar rests on patinated legs carved in the shape of lion’s paws. This piece comes from the former collection of the Dukes of La Rochefoucauld.
