This brown-patinated bronze inkwell depicts a polar bear seated on a rocky outcrop. Made in France circa 1900, this naturalistically modelled piece incorporates an ink reservoir beneath a cover modelled as an adjoining rock. The whole rests on an irregularly contoured base with a recessed pen tray. The cast bears no mark or signature, and the surface shows slight traces of greenish oxidation around the edge of the base. The piece measures 11 cm in height, 25 cm in width and 14 cm in depth.
