Lacquered wooden sculpture depicting Tokugawa Ieyasu, 18th century

This finely carved, lacquered and painted wooden sculpture depicts the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543–1616). Attributed to the Japanese School, this piece dates from the 18th century. The work employs a woodcarving technique combined with lacquered and painted finishes. The figure depicts the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, a historical figure associated with the unification of Japan and the establishment of the Edo period of peace, which lasted from 1603 to 1868. The object measures 18.5 cm in length, 36 cm in width and 19 cm in depth. The piece is in good condition.
