Large Louis XV style "bureau plat", France

This Louis XV-style bureau plat is made with tulipwood veneer, gilt bronze and leather. Dating from the late 19th century, it is of French origin. The desk has been restored using traditional French polishing techniques by a professional cabinetmaker. The frieze incorporates three drawers and rests on four cabriole legs. The original gilt-bronze mounts feature rococo ornament on the knees, drawers, sides and sabots. The rectangular top retains its original leather and is edged with a bronze moulding. It measures 79 cm in height, 180 cm in width and 96 cm in depth.
