Description

This shuttle-shaped desk inkwell was crafted from Limoges porcelain around 1930, in a distinctively Empire style. Against an elegant white background, a hand-painted polychrome floral design adds a delicate botanical touch. The piece features two inkwells fitted with domed lids in gilded copper, chiselled with foliage motifs, framed by five circular openings highlighted by a matching frieze. These compartments are designed to hold quill pens, a pencil, a wax stick and a seal, the latter of which is included with the set. A rectangular compartment in the centre holds the powder used to dry the ink. A frieze in fine gold borders the upper edge and the scroll-shaped handles, completing this display piece.
