Made in Vienne circa 1808 during the Sorgenthal period, this porcelain set comprises a litron cup and saucer. The cup, 6 cm high, is painted with leafy rose stems, with gilt borders to the edges. The saucer, 13,5 cm in diameter, bears a French inscription in calligraphy at its centre: ‘let us endure the thorns in the hope of roses’. The piece bears factory marks and the potter’s mark of the thrower Joh. Vogl, active in Vienne until 1820.
