This bronze nautical sextant was made in the 18th century by Andreas Vogler, a manufacturer of astronomical instruments and equatorial meridians who was active in Augsburg from around 1730 to 1800. Preserved in very good overall condition, this scientific instrument is both complete and in working order. It is housed in its original wooden carrying case, which still contains its instruction manual written in French and German. This instrument measures 31 cm in length and 37 cm in height. A display piece held in Brussels, this historical object combines the technical interest of nautical measurement with the meticulous craftsmanship of bronze work.
