Description
Originating from Shanxi province in China and dating from the late Qing period, this lacquered wooden cabinet was traditionally used by herbalists to store seeds and medicinal plants. The front comprises fifteen drawers arranged in five rows, each fitted with a metal handle on a rectangular backplate. The cabinet rests on a plinth carved with floral motifs and features a frieze of small panels beneath the top. The celadon-green lacquer displays subtle variations in tone and a patina developed through use. The cabinet has been fully restored.
