"Fouras", DUFRENOY Georges

This oil painting on board, executed in the early 20th century, is a work by the French School artist Georges Dufrenoy. Rendered in a Post-Impressionist style, the composition depicts a beach view identified by the artist as Fouras, on the coast between La Rochelle and Rochefort. The foreground shows wild flowers and a boat resting on the sand, while small boats with coloured sails, the island of Oléron and Fort Boyard can be seen in the distance. The signature and location are inscribed at the lower right. The work measures 54,5 cm in height by 46,5 cm in width, and 57 cm by 67 cm including its gilt frame. This coastal subject is rare in the work of the artist, who painted mainly city views, chiefly of Paris.
