Pair of Venetian candlesticks in painted and gilded wood, 18th century

A pair of candlesticks made of painted and gilded wood and painted sheet metal, crafted in Venice in the 18th century. The structure consists of a long, turned and moulded wooden shaft, surmounted by a lantern supported by a sheet-metal frame cut with foliage motifs. The lantern retains its original polychrome scheme, combining blue, red, gold, white and green on its dome and uprights. The piece stands 240 cm tall and shows visible signs of wear and surface deterioration on the paintwork. In the 18th century, such lanterns frequently adorned the halls of Venetian palaces and bore the colours of the families.
