Floor lamp in painted sheet metal and gold leaf, Directoire period

This painted sheet-metal floor lamp is in the Directoire style, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, around 1800. Structured in the form of a column resting on a quadrangular base, the piece is topped by a baluster vase adorned with handles depicting swans. The green-background surface is embellished with gold leaf decoration combining classical and Egyptian-inspired motifs. The decoration includes, in particular, palmettes, acanthus leaves, ferns, lotus motifs, papyrus and cornucopias. The piece is topped with a matching cylindrical lampshade and measures 175 cm in height.
