Boulle marquetry display and bookcase, Maison Delafontaine à Paris

This two-part display cabinet-bookcase, dating from the late 19th century, during the Napoleon III period, is veneered in ebonised pearwood with Boulle-style marquetry featuring a red tortoiseshell motif. The upper section has two arched glazed doors surmounted by a concave pediment centred on a carved profile, while the lower section opens with two solid doors decorated with large oval medallions. The piece is embellished with bronze mounts retaining their original gilding, signed on the reverse by Maison Delafontaine. The cabinet measures 247 cm in height, 132 cm in width and 46 cm in depth, and has been restored using a traditional varnishing technique.
