Exquisite cylinder secretary desk with display cabinet, France

This cylinder bureau surmounted by a display cabinet is made of veneered wood and decorated with gilt-bronze mounts. It is a French piece dating from the Napoleon III period, in the mid to second half of the 19th century. The interior bears the mark of the cabinetmaker Derumaux. The cylinder features cube marquetry within a central oval medallion, while each leg is adorned with a gilt-bronze female-bust espagnolette mount. The back of the piece features marquetry and gilt-bronze mounts identical to those on the front. The overall dimensions are 169 cm high, 100 cm wide and 70 cm deep; the display cabinet is 65 cm high, and the writing surface, when extended, measures 81 cm by 50 cm at a height of 74 cm. The piece has been professionally restored.
