Description
This mahogany-veneered and brass centre table dates to circa 1930. Made in Belgium by De Coene, based in Courtrai, it bears the maker's stamp beneath its circular top. The table stands on a base edged with hammered brass, from which rises a cylindrical central column encircled by brass mouldings. The upper section opens into five curved supports holding the circular top. The hammered brass decoration is characteristic of Art Deco while also revealing an Africanist influence. The table measures 73 cm in height and 80 cm in diameter. This example has been restored.
