Biography

The De Coene firm is a furniture manufactory founded in Kortrijk by Adolphe De Coene, initially as an upholstery business. His sons Jozef and Adolphe, influenced by Henry van de Velde, transformed it into a Kunstwerkstede combining some twenty crafts, incorporated in 1925. The firm collaborated with designers such as Marcel Breuer, Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé, and fitted out many pavilions at Expo 58 in Brussels.
