Ceramics centre in the south of France, near Cannes, whose pottery tradition dates back to the repopulation of the town by potter families in the 16th century. In the late 19th century, the Massier family (Clément, Delphin, Jérôme) introduced coloured glazes and metallic pigments that gave Vallauris its artistic reputation. Pablo Picasso's arrival in 1948, working notably at the Madoura workshop, sparked a revival of local ceramics in the 1950s, a period that saw numerous ceramicists such as Roger Capron settle in the town.
