Biography
Born in Paris in 1751, Pierre-Philippe Thomire trained in sculpture under Augustin Pajou and Jean-Antoine Houdon before joining the workshop of the bronze-worker Pierre Gouthière. Established on his own in 1776, he became the most prominent bronzier of the Empire, supplying bronzes for major Sèvres services and imperial furniture. He retired in 1823 and died in Paris in 1843.
