Biography

Born in Geneva in 1790, James Pradier (Jean-Jacques Pradier) moved to Paris in 1807 and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts. A Prix de Rome laureate, he stayed at the Villa Medici from 1814 to 1818. Elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1827 and a professor at the École, he became one of the leading neoclassical sculptors of his time. He died in 1852.
