Biography

Born in Paris in 1838, Aimé-Jules Dalou was noticed by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, who had him admitted to the Petite École; he then studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Francisque Duret. After the Paris Commune he lived in exile in London until 1879. Creator of The Triumph of the Republic on Place de la Nation, he died in Paris in 1902.
