Biography

Born in Paris in 1854, Gaston Veuvenot adopted the surname Leroux, that of his maternal grandmother. Trained at the Vienna Academy under Carl Kundmann and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under François Jouffroy, he became sculptor to the city of Bordeaux in 1893 and a professor at its school of fine arts. Influenced by Orientalism, his works include the monument to Rosa Bonheur. He died in Bordeaux in 1942.
