Biography

Born in Glasgow in 1834, Christopher Dresser is regarded as one of the first independent industrial designers. Trained at the Government School of Design in London, he designed furniture, ceramics, metalwork and textiles for numerous British manufacturers, including Minton, Hukin & Heath and Linthorpe Pottery. A figure of the Aesthetic Movement, he had a lasting influence on Anglo-Japanese decorative arts. He died in Mulhouse in 1904.
