This pair of andirons is crafted from gilded bronze and was patinated in the 19th century, modelled on Thomir’s design, in the Napoleon III style. The composition features a design depicting winged sphinxes seated on a plinth. The plinth is adorned with a Gorgon’s head and rests on tapered, twisted legs. The bronze work alternates between the patinated surfaces of the figures and the gilding of the ornamental elements. The pair is preserved without its irons. The pieces measure 36 cm in width, 30 cm in height and 11 cm in depth. The set is in very good condition.
