Maria Pergay

Born in 1930 in Chișinău, Maria Pergay emigrated to France as a child. She began designing shop windows before creating silver objects in the late 1950s. From the mid-1960s, approached by the firm Uginox, she pioneered stainless steel in furniture, notably the Flying Carpet Daybed and the Ring Chair shown in 1968. Her work is held in collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She died in 2023.
