Founded in Paris in 1781 on the rue de Bondy by Christophe Erasmus Dihl, Antoine Guérhard and his wife, the factory obtained the patronage of the Duke of Angoulême, nephew of Louis XVI, allowing it to produce gilded and coloured porcelain despite the Sèvres monopoly. Relocated to rue du Temple from 1789, it weathered the Revolution, the Consulate and the Empire, becoming one of the most prestigious Parisian manufactories. It closed in 1828.
