Biography

Founded at Vincennes in 1740 under Louis XV, with the support of Madame de Pompadour, the manufactory moved to Sèvres in 1756 and came under Crown control in 1759. The discovery of kaolin near Limoges in 1768 enabled the shift to hard-paste porcelain from 1770. Now a national manufactory, it remains active under the French Ministry of Culture.
