Biography

Eero Saarinen was born on 20 August 1910 in Kirkkonummi, Finland, son of architect Eliel Saarinen, and emigrated to the United States as a child. Trained at Cranbrook Academy of Art and Yale, he became an architect and designer. He designed the General Motors Technical Center, the TWA Flight Center in New York and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, as well as furniture including the Tulip chair and the Womb Chair. He died on 1 September 1961 in Ann Arbor.
