Régence period giltwood stool from Liège

This giltwood and silk stool dates from the Régence period and originates from Liège. The carved wood frame retains its original 18th-century oil gilding. The seat stands on four cabriole legs joined by a shaped X-stretcher, beneath a moulded seat rail centred by a shell. The recessed seat is fitted with a cushion upholstered in blue and gold silk from Rubelli, in the Tebaldo Pavone fabric. Minor wear and losses to the gilding appear to reveal the preparatory layer on the wood beneath.
