Marquise and her Regency-era walnut stool

This marquise chair, accompanied by its footstool and forming a ‘duchesse brisée’ set, is crafted from carved walnut. Made during the Régence period in the 18th century, this chair features a moulded and carved frame. The woodwork reveals sculpted detailing adorning the lower crossbar with a central shell motif, whilst the shoulders of the curved legs are embellished with acanthus leaves. The legs are finished with scrollwork. The generous seat is complemented by a removable cushion, the whole being upholstered in a light-coloured fabric edged with braid. The armchair measures 99 cm in height, 90 cm in width and 93 cm in depth, with a seat height of 40 cm without the cushion and 51 cm with the cushion, whilst the footstool measures 70 cm by 69 cm.
