Pair of bronze and marble candelabra with torch holders, Louis XVI period

This pair of candelabra supporting torch holders is crafted from gilded bronze, patinated bronze, white marble and Sainte-Anne marble. Created during the Louis XVI period, the structure features two draped female figures in patinated bronze. Each figure supports a gilded bronze torchholder with several arms, adorned with foliage, scrolls and plant motifs, crowned by lampshades and finials resembling flames. The sculptures rest on cylindrical shafts of white marble, accented with garlands and suspended chains in gilded bronze. The ensemble stands on circular plinths of Sainte-Anne marble edged with beaded mouldings. This set comes from the family of the Princes of Mérode.
