Description
This mid-19th-century oil on canvas is a seascape of the German School, painted by the German artist Wilhelm August Krause (1803-1864). The composition depicts a maritime scene with sailing vessels and men rowing small boats on the green waters of the North Sea, probably off the Scottish coast. To the right, a rocky cliff rises beneath a cloudy sky, crowned by a fortified tower. The work is presented in its original gilt frame. It measures 97 cm in height and 136 cm in width unframed, and 117 cm by 156 cm framed. The surface has been professionally cleaned and revarnished.
